Rome Sorrento

  ROME/SORRENTO                                                                7 days 

Day 1:
Arrival of the group by flight APT/FCO and transfer by our GT De-Lux m/coach to ROME or surroundings. Accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.
 
Day 2:
After breakfast departure to the centre of ROME for a full day guided visit with the Vatican Museums: the Tapestry Gallery, the Raphael Rooms, the Sixtine Chapel and the Vatican Library. Then visit of St. Peter’s Basilica, housing the famous Pietà by Michelangelo. In the afternoon continuation of the tour with the Holy Basilica of St. Maria Maggiore, the Basilica of St John’s in Lateran and the Catacombs. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
  
Day 3:
After breakfast departure to the centre of ROME for a half day guided walk through the baroque Rome with the most beautiful spots of the city: via del Tritone, Piazza Barberini, Pantheon (the best preserved pagan temple of the ancient period), Piazza Navona, one of the most fancy squares of Rome with the Bernini’s magnificent Four River Fountain, Piazza di Spagna and the famous Trevi Fountain, well known for its imposing beauty. Afternoon at leisure. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
 
Day 4:
After breakfast departure to the SORRENTINE PENINSULA along the Highway of the Sun. On the way CSS of Naples with Mergellina, The Castel dell’Ovo, Via Caracciolo and Santa Lucia neighbourhood. Then continuation to POMPEJI. Upon arrival guided visit of the best preserved ancient Roman city buried under the ashes of the nearby Vesuvius in 79 A.D. rediscovered in the 18th century. Further on to the Sorrentine Peninsula. Accomodation in Hotel, dinner and overnight.
 
Day 5:
After breakfast full-day optional excursion to CAPRI and ANACAPRI. Transfer by private minibus to the port and embarkation to Capri. Upon arrival guided island tour with private minibus with stops for visits in Capri and Anacapri. Possibility to visit the famous Villa of the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe in Anacapri in which clients can admire various archaeological founds, dating back to the Roman Age, that were founded on the island. Then to the centre of Capri, very chic town with shops, hotels and restaurants lying along winding streets. The main square Piazza Umberto I, the so-called “Piazzetta” has a pretty white church and several open-air cafes. Leading off the square are medieval looking alleyways and arcades full of shops selling the handicrafts of the island, clothing, jewellery made from coral and gold, shoes and ceramics. Walk along Via Camerelle till the Belvedere of Punta Tragara. During this walk possibility to admire the colourful gardens of Augustus overlooking the famous Faraglioni Rocks and Marina Piccola where Gracie Fields once lived. Than free time at disposal for shopping, strolling around or simply relax. Return to the hotel late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight.
  
Day 6:
After breakfast departure for a full day guided excursion UPPER POSITANO/AMALFI/RAVELLO. The Amalfi drive is said to be the most spectacular in Europe, the winding cliff top road offers breathtaking panoramic views at every turn. First stop is just above Positano yet another splendid jewel of this coastline, which boast picturesque pink and white villas perched dramatically on the steep hillside. Then further on to Amalfi,which gives its name to the whole coast on which it lies. Once a thriving marine republic, powerful and prosperous and now a thriving holiday resort. The unmistakeable cluster of white tightly packed houses rising up the hillside is dominated by the beautiful cathedral which stands superbly on the top of a great flight of steps leading up from the main square. Housed in the magnificent Cathedral are the remains of the Patron Saint of Amalfi and also Scotland-Saint Andrew. From Amalfi then to Ravello which nestles eleven hundred feet above the sea in the mountainside and possibility to visit Villa Rufolo which gave the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create his second act of his most famous work “Parsifal”. Return to the hotel late in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.
 
Day 7:
After breakfast transfer APT/FCO in due time for the return flight and end of our services.
